What is Barcelona English Speakers?
Barcelona English Speakers is a friendly social group for English speakers who live in Barcelona — expats, internationals, long-term residents and locals. We get together every week at in-person events, from meetups and dinners to sports, hikes and quiz nights.
Do I need to be a native English speaker?
No! English is simply the language we all share. Native speakers, fluent speakers and anyone comfortable holding a relaxed conversation in English are all welcome — you'll hear accents from all over the world.
How is Barcelona English Speakers connected to AmigoUp?
Barcelona English Speakers is part of the AmigoUp community. We share the same Meetup group for public events, the same Linkdful page for members, and the same WhatsApp community — so joining one means you're part of both.
Is it free to join?
Yes! Joining is completely free. Most of our events are also free or very low cost. Any event with an entry fee will always be clearly listed on our Meetup.com page before you RSVP.
Who can join?
Anyone 18+ who lives in Barcelona (or is about to) and enjoys chatting in English — expats, remote workers, students, newcomers and people who've been here for years. You don't need to speak Spanish or know anyone. All nationalities and backgrounds are welcome.
What language do you speak at events?
English! It's the common language at every event, so everyone can join the conversation. You'll hear plenty of accents — and the odd bit of Spanish — too.

What's the difference between Meetup and Linkdful events?
Our public events are posted on Meetup.com — anyone can RSVP and come along, no membership needed. Member events live on our private Linkdful page — anything from a padel game to a beach day. Both show up on our events page. Start with a public event, then ask for an invite to join member events.
Are there member events too?
Yes! As well as our public meetups, members get together for extra events on our private Linkdful page — from padel games to dinners and beach days. Ask for an invite to join and see what's on.
How do I find out about upcoming events?
All public events are posted on our Meetup.com page and on our events page. You can RSVP on Meetup to get reminders. Member events from Linkdful appear on our events page too — sign in on Linkdful to RSVP.
Do I need to RSVP?
For most events, RSVPing via Meetup.com is encouraged so we can plan numbers — but for casual meetups you're always welcome to just show up. Events with a venue booking or limited spots will require an RSVP; this will be noted in the event description.
What kinds of events do you organise?
We run a wide mix: weekly meetups, dinners, sports (padel, tennis, football, running), hikes, quiz nights, beach days and more — see our activities. There's at least one event every week, and we're always open to suggestions from the community.
Can I suggest or organise an event?
Absolutely! Community members can suggest events in the WhatsApp group or on our Linkdful page. If you'd like to take the lead on organising something, reach out to an admin — we love member-led events.
Linkdful Community Page
What is the Linkdful page?
Linkdful is our private community platform — think of it as our members-only hub. It's where members RSVP to member events, share photos from past meetups, and keep discussions organised. It complements the WhatsApp group nicely.
How do I get access to Linkdful?
The Linkdful page is invite-only. After your first public event, use our invite link to create your account and join. It only takes a moment to set up your profile — then you can RSVP to member events and join the WhatsApp community.
WhatsApp Group
How do I join the WhatsApp group?
The WhatsApp community is for members. Once you've joined our Linkdful page, you'll find the link to the WhatsApp community there. This keeps the group friendly and authentic.
What are the group rules?
We keep it simple — be kind, be respectful, have fun. A few specifics:
- ✓ Keep messages in English
- ✓ Keep messages relevant to the group (events, recommendations, meetups)
- ✓ No spam, promotions, or unsolicited advertising
- ✓ No political, religious, or divisive content
- ✓ Treat everyone with respect — zero tolerance for harassment
Admins reserve the right to remove members who don't respect the community.
How active is the WhatsApp group?
Very active but not spammy! Members share event plans, spontaneous outing ideas, local tips, and general chat daily. It's a friendly, supportive space — not overwhelming, but always something going on.
How do I access the WhatsApp sub groups?
It's very simple. Once you join the WhatsApp community, you'll be able to see all the subgroups. You need to join each subgroup you're interested in; otherwise, you won't receive messages from that group. To switch between subgroups, tap the Community menu icon at the top right of the chat you're currently in.
